A Manual Umbrella Centrifuge
Idea: 151,014
If youâve ever walked into a building during a rainstorm, you know the drill: shake your umbrella, maybe use one of those awkward plastic sleeve dispensers, and hope youâre not trailing a puddle behind you.
But what if there were a better way?
Inspired by Community Pool CentrifugesâŚ
At many community pools, they have those nifty trunk dryersâdrop your swimsuit in, press a button, and seconds later, itâs almost dry. That got me thinking: what if we could apply that same principle to wet umbrellas?
Introducing the Hand-Crank Umbrella Spinner
Iâm working on a concept for a manual, hand-powered device that spins your umbrella to fling off excess water. Think salad spinner meets umbrella stand. You insert your closed umbrella into a chamber, give the crank a few spins, and centrifugal force does the restâno electricity, no mess, no disposable plastic sleeves.
Why It Matters:
- Eco-Friendly: No electricity or single-use plastic.
- Low-Cost: Affordable for businesses, schools, and homes.
- Maintenance-Free: No motors or heating elements to break down.
- Safe & Easy: No heat or complicated moving partsâjust a simple crank.
Ideal Use Cases:
- Office buildings
- Schools
- Apartment lobbies
- Stores and cafes
- Public transit stations
This is one of those âwhy doesnât this exist yet?â ideas that blends utility with simplicity. Iâm currently sketching designs and thinking through prototypes. If this sounds like something youâd useâor if youâre a fabricator or business interested in partneringâreach out and letâs make it happen.
Letâs keep the rain outside and the floors dry.
