DIY Giant Yoga Mat β My Size, My Style
At 6’2″, standard yoga mats are just too small for me β and I like to stretch out and practice yoga everywhere. Thatβs why Iβm designing my own oversized yoga mat, and itβs easier (and cheaper) than you might think.
π§ The Design
- Dimensions: 7ft x 6ft β plenty of room to move.
- Base: A Harbor Freight tarp for the bottom layer β waterproof and rugged ($3.50).
- Top Layer: A thin breathable material like a light rug, cotton, moving cloth ($20). Something comfortable but still practical.
- Weighted Corners: Stitch sand pockets into the tarp corners and fill them up β about $5 in sand to keep the mat from flapping or curling up.
- Maybe Silicon Grip Patterning; Use silicon to add some grip and texture.
- Assembly: Stitch the top material to the tarp, ensuring everything is secure and durable.
π΅ Costs & Selling Price
- Materials + Labor: Estimated around $50 total.
- Retail Price: Could easily sell for $100 β custom-sized, handmade, and perfect for tall yogis or anyone wanting more space.
Iβm tempted to make a batch of these β if youβd buy one or have material suggestions, let me know in the comments!
